I went to a chiropracter for help with restless leg syndrome. He gave me 1/2" lifts to put in my shoes to address scoliosis, which I have had since childhood. The scoliosis has never bothered me, and I did not and do not have back pain. But the doctor said that as I get older (I am 54), the effects of the scoliosis will increase and I will have back problems.

I have been wearing the lifts for over a year now. I can tell that they have straightened my back somewhat, but the effect on the restless leg is minimal, and wearing the lifts is a real hassle. I would like to stop wearing the lifts. Will that cause any problems? I really don't want to wear lifts for the rest of my life because I *may* develop pain in the future. Thank you for your advice.

This is a decision that you might want to get a second opinion from a orthopedic doctor. We are just patients like you so we don't have the expertise to answer this question. Its a decision you and your doctors need to make. Good luck.

I had a chiropractor years ago who gave me lifts. He said it would help my back pain. They made it worse!

Restless Leg Syndrome should not get better or worse by lifts. There are some very effective medications for that. You might want to address this with a medical doctor, rather than a chiropractor, who is NOT a medical doctor, in spite of what he calls himself. :)

That's my experience.

My personal two cents worth on it.

If those lifts are helping you, why stop wearing them for the sake of a little hassle?

Trust me, you dont want the pain that me and others have suffered or are suffering through here. If I had the choice of lifts and no pain.. no brainer.

I would discuss this with an orthopedic spine doctor. Majority of chiros are not medical doctors. I think you could benefit from the opinion of a spine doc. Then you are much better informed to decide to wear them or not.

Let us know how you make out.
