The other day, I got five stitches to patch up a small laceration on my left knee. My knee honestly feels totally fine. I can walk and everything and have done a tad bit of riding on my mate's BMX bike and i really want to get back on my own. Is it alright to do so? I don't think my stitches could really rip open from just pedaling...

you shouldn't, probably better to wait a few weeks after the stitches are removed. you could stretch the skin and then rip it back open.

I wouldn't recommend it. I had stitches in my forearm, and the doctor said I shouldn't lift any weights while they were in. While you won't be lifting, pedaling puts alot of strain on your knee. I would say no, but I have no real proof to back this up.

DO NOT RISK IT! for the first month or so, everytime you say "I feel (great, good, fine, perfect, ect.)" about your knee REVERSE IT! Even when you feel good, doesnt mean that your injury is, expecially stiches. Biking obviously means you need to rotate your knees alot. So your knee (and skin) stretches and the onlyt thing keeping your knee together are those stitches which are being pulled apart everytime you peddle, so you are putting the possibility of ripping your stiches open to an ALL TIME EXTREME HIGH! and problems happen, from infection to not being sealed properly (which will lead to even worse problems or an even BIGGER scar) DO NOT DOT PUT STRESS ON YOUR KNEE

I personally would not try it for @ least 3wks after injury cuz it MAY split open;; you also run the risk of falling off the bike (for whatever reason) & causing more complications to your injury (including infection, & even if it's bandaged);; get a ride or tell them to come over;; I think you may also be forgetting about the tissues UNDER what you can see;; they actually need to heal too!!
