can i return an item i paid with by credit card after my bill came in?

let's say i bought something for $20 using my credit card .. then my bill came and i paid that $20 .. but now i want to return it and the store policy is that the money would go back to my card .. does that mean i get that $20 back on my next bill since i returned the item?
