A-school? I am leaving in 7 days for Navy boot camp and the only thing i'm worried about is the dental exam. I've heard they pull your wisdom teeth even if you have no occurring problems. Also, im going into the nuclear power program so i have a very long a-school, maybe they'll let me wait until then? i just fear that they won't put me to sleep for the procedure and i have VERY high anxiety levels, basically i will freak out. Can you request to be put to sleep by any chance? Thank you in advance!

I heard there was a boogy man in my closet.

No dude they don't take out your wisdom teeth if you have no problems. It is and old myth. It would be a waste of time and money.

I had mine taken out by a military dentist after I had been in for a couple of years since I did have problems. He shot me up a few times and pulled them out in minutes.... I barely felt a thing. I was surprised when he said all done. I went "that's it"? He laughed and said well I could keep going if you want.

1. If Big Navy decides it "must be done," they will do it because they own you. Basically, you're an investment and they're going to take care of that investment.

2. Think logically. Do you think they have enough staff to pull wisdom teeth of every recruit (about 400/week) that comes through?

3. I can't say I have a yes/no for you but I will say not one recruit in my division or sister division (160 recruits) had their wisdom teeth pulled.

4. There's more to be worried about than that. Just bite the bullet and jump in. I doubt they'll take them out.

Best of luck in boot. You can learn a lot if you have the right attitude.

I am pretty sure that they will want the procedure done even if there are no occurring problems, because there could be a problem at an inopportune time.

I also have very Very high anxiety levels when it comes to the dentist. I have had my wisdom teeth pulled though. They did put me to sleep (I was freaking out about that), but then I woke up and it was over with. It wasn't fun, but also wasn't half as bad as I made it out to be....Oh...and yes, you can request to be put to sleep..they usually always put people to sleep anyway when having wisdom teeth pulled...just not other teeth. Good luck.
