Wonderer About Much

I have a number of music files on my flash drive, all in the file type with the page, the multicolored circle, and the arrow, which apparently is called an M4A file. Is there any way I can transfer these files to my iTunes library?
Incidentally this is all legitimate; the files are being transferred from another computer in the house, using the same (shared) iTunes account, and were all purchased legally. There are not enough of them to be worth transferring the library.
Assistance please?
Can I alter them in any way so that I can do so? Or, for other reasons, get them to Windows Movie Maker? They refuse to be transferred there either.
