Can I play games from ANY REGION on my Gameboy Advance?

I already know about the different region codes and stuff and how for Australia it is PAL, but I have been told that there are no region codes on Gameboy Advance and DS games, is this true?.. I have an old Gameboy Advance, the one that doesn't have a rechargable battery and backlight.
