I live in Vermont and have acess if i need to get parts but my dirt bike is a two stroke to so i don't know if it will be too loud. Could a some sot of muffler fix this? please answer logically. Thankx!
If it doesn't have a DOT/EPA label affixed by the manufacturer attesting to the fact that it meets all FMVSS and EPA standards as of the date of manufacture then it cannot legally be operated on public roads. The exhaust system is only one potential problem. Lighting, brakes, tires, etc. all must be up to standard for that label to be affixed by the manufacturer.
Some states do have programs for registering homemade vehicles; it's how custom bikes are usually operated legally on the street. Contact a DMV office for your state's method of going that route. A two-stroke engine from model year 2000 could be a show-stopper as the engine must be EPA certified and that one probably isn't.
At my location you'll need to add DOT approved: metal fuel tank, electric front and rear turn signals, headlight, spark arrest if dual-
sporting, pass the emission exam (see DMV regulations), get the
state license plate with yearly tag upgrades, and you'll need both insurance and approved helmet for whoever is on it. Badge bears
will eat you alive otherwise.
