I recently returned from a 6 week trip to the Hawaiian islands where I WWOOFed, experienced raw nature and met great people. When the day came to leave the islands, I didn't want to. I felt like I wasn't done with my experience and since that time I've been highly considering going back for a longer period of time. I just got a decent paying retail job that I plan to work for a whole year. After a short stint cross country via train, I'm planning on WWOOFing on a few farms on various islands in different locations and the goal is to hopefully establish myself on the island at some point during this process. I spent time on Big Island and Kauai and loved both tremendously but Kauai was really where I felt at peace. The only thing I didn't like about the islands was the roaches and centipedes. Everything else I could deal with. Personally I don't need much so living a minimalist life wouldn't be too much of an issue and that would actually help with finances. WWOOFing would give me the knowledge to begin my own garden at some point down the line and an advantage to living a sustainable life.
If I work for a whole year I should have 8k-10k saved up. I still live with my mom and only have to pay for my own groceries and cell phone while I'm here. I'm also planning on doing a 4 month culinary course which would help in finding a job on the islands as a cook or personal chef somewhere. If I can't make living out there a reality, I plan on being out there at least a few months. Do you think this is possible?
