Can I make anime shirts etc and sell it on ebay?

So a friend and I came up with the idea of making shirts, hoodies and maybe bags with peoples favourite anime characters, like Edward Elric, Inuyasha, etc, from our own designs. My question is, can we get into trouble for that with the companies, even if we put the company's copyright on say, the back of the sweatshirts under the hood or something? Thanks
