I'm currently in the National Guard on the Split option, meaning I did Basic Training this last summer and will be shipping to Infantry AIT this summer. I have been considering commissioning with the Marine Corps, in which I would be detached from the Guard to attend USMC OCS the summer of my junior year in college (currently a sophomore). What I would like to know is which benefits I would keep, if any, to assist me in paying for college. The Marine Corps will offer a little, but if I'm able to keep some benefits from the Guard, then that would go a long way. Someone I know who's knowledgeable on the subject seems to think I'd be able to keep the GI Bill and Kicker, but would have to relinquish the rest. Please let me know what you think.
