can i keep a garden snail?

hi i found a small garden snail today and wanted to keep it i put in a see thru plastic box with no lid put some leaves in it and a rock and some wood sprinkled some tap water in too is that ok? what can i use as a lid and where should i keep it? should i give him water and leaves everyday? cuz he is on his own should i find another snail for him too? HELP!!!!!!!
