Can I just get a Vision exam at Walmart Vision Center or Eyeglass World?

I hate going to the eye doctor. I don't like getting my eyes poked and dilated. Can I just get a Vision exam to get my prescription renewed? As in, can they just show me the eye chart and I read it and get that exam? I ran out of contacts and I really don't want to go through the ENTIRE eye exam.....
