Can I join the Navy with Self inflicted injury from the past?

I'm 19 years old and want to join the Navy. I went in and took my placement and scored an 86 so they want me but I may not be able to join now. I talked to a recruiter about being hospitalized already but he basically told me it's up to me on what I say. I didn't think it would be a problem to leave that subject undisclosed but then I remembered I have noticeable scars from self injury on my right arm. I haven't done this since I was 15 and I'm turning 20 in July. I just told the recruiter today and he said he wants to see the scars for himself tomorrow, hoping that they won't be a big deal but they probably are. I also went to the national guards with my friend and asked the army recruiter what his thoughts on this subject were. He told me that because it was five years ago, I have a diploma, I have a driver license, and I will have my associates degree this summer. I know these things don't compensate for the scars, but were I am at is more important than were I was. If I were to be given a psych evaluation I am almost 100% positive I will pass. I believe I am strong enough to serve my country under pressure and this is really what I want to do. But I know I can be disqualified no matter how firmly I believe this. I'm trying to be hopeful but I need some reality from people who have been in a similar situation, know some one who has, or anyone who has been or is a recruiter. Even if you're not someone who has been described above, I would like to hear from you. Thank you.
