can I hike part of the way to machu picchu?

4 days from Cuzco to machu picchu seems like too much, does anyone know if there is a tour group for a shorter hike such as 1 or 2 days with a portion of the travel by other means such as rail/air?

Yes there is a two day hike to MP, you just start the hike closer to MP which will take less time to get there. It's the same companies that offer the 4 day variety.
