Specifically, Siamese Fighting Fish. My friend had two male and one killed the other... so should I get a male and female, two females, or even two males... can I have some background info please? I can't find much "googling" it.. Thanks

it is best not to have 2 male betas together, they are very Territorial and will try to kill one another. the only time a male and female can be together is while breeding. because breeding is difficult, this is not recommended. however it is possible to keep female betas together, but it is a good idea to keep at least 3 in the same tank. with at least 3 betas they will form a hierarchy. with only 2 one will become dominant and the other will get picked on. so if you want multiple betas in the same tank, get all females. (at least 3)

Two males will fight each other. Don't get a male and female unless you want babies :) I'm honestly not sure about getting two females. I think they'd be okay together.

you can have two females together, not two males they will kill each other. you can have a male and a female...but then you would have a lot of babies....
