Can I have both a header and a navigation bar in HTML or xHTML?

I've had a nice little navigation bar on my site for a while and I had the nooks and crannies fixed up nicely for quite some time. I decided I liked the idea of adding a header, but when I added in the code, it interfered with my navigation bar. Although it wasn't too dramatic of an interference, it was still a burden.

Are there specific codes I should use for this type of situation?
I thought about that and doubled checked it but it was acting up. Well, the former half of the first answer. But I'll triple check.
