If you must use scissors, at least splurge for a pair of grooming scissors with rounded tips to minimize the risk of injuring your dog. I have a yorkie that is a walking tangle machine. He loves to roll around and tangle his hair and every leaf and twig in the yard latches onto his coat. So I can't afford a professional groomer, either. My dog only stays still for just so much brushing and combing so I invested in a portable grooming table. You could save up for one. They are only about $40. The one I have is round, rotates, and has a grooming arm. That table is the handiest tool besides a good comb and scissors. I got it at www.petedge.com. Also, I picked up a grooming dvd by Oster at Petsmart for $10. I know you said that you have no money, but you can get these items a little at a time just as I have done. Possibly you can borrow a book on dog grooming from your local library which will give you the basic grooming diagrams.
