No, West point is an excellent school though, and on top of that, doing some service looks excellent on a resume. A large portion of the worlds C.E.Os served in the military so don't think it's a bad thing because it gives you an edge. It shows employers discipline, dedication and the ability to make decisions during crucial times. Don't think it's a bad thing. You get an excellent free college education, and you have a huge edge when applying for jobs. If you're bright, you won't be going to war anyway. You'll be with the tech guys cracking codes or doing anything other then war. No offense to anyone who's in the military, but for the most part the people in combat aren't to bright. Worst case scenario you can get an unconditional discharge if you fail out of boot camp, but it looks pretty bad. Good Luck

instead of serving in the army? Can I graduate from West Point and then pay a fine for the cost of education instead of serving in the army

So I've been told that ROTC has a army obligation just like West Point, but the government can chose whether to force you into the army or ask to be financially compensated.

Can you go to West Point and then just pay the Army back for the cost of your education instead of serving?
I'm fairly well off thanks to my and my parents business ventures and my trust fund. So I'm willing to pay a hefty fee, for the honor of a West Point degree. It will really help me with my business ventures in the future. Also I hope to play Army football. I was incredible running back in high school and think I have a future.

Thoughts?
