I live in New Hampshire, I had to get a tattoo waiver and my recruiter told me that it didn't pass, but i could still go in the reserves. I didn't get how it could fail with going into active duty, and still be allowed in the reserves. She told me it was because they had too many people going that were in active duty and that there were openings for the reserves. I want to go in active duty, and i was told to try to get in at San Diego. Is this a possibility?

Where you go to boot camp usually depends on two factors: where you currently live and the availability at the time you enlist. But, figure if you're east of the Mississippi, you'll probably end up at Parris Island, South Carolina.

Marine boot camp is pretty hard, whether you're at San Diego or Parris Island. But, they call boot camp in San Diego "Hollywood Bootcamp", because it's not as hot and miserable as Parris Island. And, you may find that some Marines feel that they are superior for having gone through Parris Island instead of San Diego.
