Can i go on a 3 day snow hike trip with running shoes?

Would runners be fine in snow? Or is it absolutely critical to buy $200 hiking boots?
What if i'm wearing 2 pairs of wool socks?

depends do you want to be a tight arse and lose your toes to frostbite or keep your feet dry and warm and return with toes ? You do realise snow is frozen water right?
