If you owe any money towards repaying grants, you will have to pay that off first. If you only owe student loans, you can get financial aid again as long as your loans are not in default status. So, if you've been making the required monthly payments, you can receive financial aid and your loans can be placed in deferment wants you enter school again. If you didn't pay on your loans and they went into default, you are not eligible for further financial aid until you bring them back into good status.
