I'm a transfer student going to a california state university

if i get qualified for financial aid..
can i still get student loans through my school or companies like Sallie Mae?

if I have both (I'm pretty positive I'll get it) , how would they go about paying for my school and my expenses? will my financial aid automatically cover expenses while my student loans takes care of the rest?
and will they send me the remaining for personal expenses?

I'm confused on how to go about getting money and how I will be able to pay for school expenses along with personal expenses including food and gas.

Any advice?

You should first complete the FAFSA to see what aid you are eligible to receive. You may not need to take out private loans through Sallie Mae if you receive enough aid to cover your tuition costs. If you employer pays for your funding you should check with the HR department to find out exactly how your company awards tuition assistance. If you have any funds left over after your federal and state loans/grants have been applied to your account you will receive a check from your school for any left over funds.
