can i get back to playing sports pain free without getting surgery?.....?

I have a grade 2 shoulder separation and a grade 2 tear of the biceps at the shoulder-basically what brett favre has. I'm wondering if the pain will ever subside or if I will have to have surgery.
dr. said he thinks i will but wasnt positive on it....
