Three years ago I was given a start date for a job in the state court system. I became severely ill and was hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital between the date I signed the papers and my start date. The head of the office (who is a lawyer) informed me that the office is withdrawing the job offer, citing two reasons: a) I couldn't retain information, and b) I cannot follow basic instructions. I told him in a letter that I had a mental illness which caused the mania, and during that time, I wasn't at all the same person that I am normally. He stood his ground. I spoke with my department's disability coordinator who opined that I shouldn't file a complaint; plus, I was reluctant to because the head of the office is a lawyer. Can I get an extension (a looong extension) to file a complaint in MA?
