Can I get a saiga 12 shotgun in California with no magazine release key legally?

I know that if you have a pistol grip on the gun, and it has a detachable magazine, it needs a magazine key to release the mag, but I also know that I can order one without a pistol grip, but some guy at the gunshow told me that it would still have a mag release. Is that correct? I hope not because mag release keys are bullshit and I hate living in this state for that reason but can't move yet lol
