you can try, but the problem is that the heat wouldn't be able to regulated. It's possible that the PMC would be contaminated by the (presumably solid) fuel you use in your forge.
If by chance you use a gas forge, either with propane or natural gas, you could turn it way low, and do some tests to see what settings you require.
It might be best to ask around for someone who has a kiln to use. Usually folks are pretty cool about stuff like that
