can I dye stones purple from my garden?

I have spent the last 3 days sorting my huge garden out for the summer, and I have stones where the patio lies on. I want to make my garden really colourful this year and have pink and purple stones. If I can, to save money I would like to dye the stones I already have, just wondered if this was possible or would I have to buy already coloured stones. Any ideas???? Thank you for all answers. xx
