Can I dye my hair an unnatural color without bleaching?

I have semi-dark brown hair. It's not very dark but I wouldn't call it light neither.
I bought a very dark blue hair dye but I really really want to avoid bleaching my hair. The brand of dye is manic panic if that helps...
