Can I drive my Jeep Liberty around without a front drive shaft?

There has been a noise coming from the front end of my Jeep. When I put it in 4x4 the noise gets worse and I was told by a mechanic that the noise is coming from the front drive shaft. The part is in back order so it will be a while before I get a new front drive shaft. Will it hurt my car if I remove the front drive shaft. I do NOT plan on driving 4x4.
 
it depends on the vehicle, but I have a feeling the best person to ask that question is a jeep dealer, some full time transfer cases this was not a good idea, as they had a oil pump inside the trasfer case, so for obvious reasons, leaving a big hole in the side was not a good idea. call the dealer, and talk to the parts guys, a lot of times someone there has a jeep and you can get your question answered faster,
