My son was hospitalized in December 2008. We paid his medical bills in 2009. He was a full time student in 2008 and we can therefore claim him as a dependent. In 2009 he is no longer a student and we will not be able to claim him. Can we claim the expenses in 2008 since that's when they were incurred?
Can I deduct medical expenses in the year they were incurred?
