photo therapy is amazing for hormonal acne it did nothing for the cystic acne but I used to get little hormonal bumps around my chin and lips...seemed like a new one every morning but I got 3 sessions of photo therapy and it worked fantastic! (kind of expensive though...)

5% benzoyl peroxide used twice a day, after clensing with a 2% salicylic acid wash

I have suffered from acne for about 8 years now I am only 19... Ortho Tri Cyclen is the only thing that has really ever been able to help but my hair has really been thinning out and I just dont want to lose my hair.. Its really a tough situation because the pill helps my acne but is ruining my hair.. Is there any other way to really treat hormonal acne without taking birth control? Any help would be really appreciated..

i would love to know the same! we are tryin to conceive so i cant take bc either...hopefully it will magically disappear when i get prego! but yea bump id like some answers on that too!

I found a post on here about taking 1000mg 3 times a day of Evening Primrose because it balances out your hormones.... I think I might try this... anybody have any luck?

I can't use benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid...I have rosacea as well and it irritates my acne :(

I will give the Evening Primrose a try.. I have read some really good reviews about it on the internet so we will see

Emma, do you have excessive hair on your body...like maybe noticeably more on your arms? I had acne too at a very early age and when I was about 20 years old I discovered that I had hirsutism. My chief complaint was the acne, but getting diagnosed and on the proper medication helped me straighten out other things as well.

I've heard good things about the herb Vitex (Agnus Castus). Worth researching maybe? It balances out your hormones, and is particularly helpful with those suffering from Cushing's Disease. Do a search on it + Acne.

Not long ago there was an article that talked about a study done on women who had hirsutism. They gave them spearmint tea to drink around the time they get their period and it helped with the hirsutism. It helped reduce free testosterone but more studies need to be done. I am going to try the tea to see if it helps with my oily skin even though I don't have hirsutism.

I gave the spearmint tea a try and its working for me. I tried 3 diff. branRAB and I'm happy that I found spearmint tea that is cheap and not hard to find. The plantation mint-just black tea and spearmint has made my skin less oily. I started looking for a cure for my oily skin so long ago and I tried to get spiro. Because of circumstances I went looking for a diff. alternative. I read about spearmint tea and how it reduced free testosterone in the blood on women with hirtuism and I thought maybe this would work for my oily skin. My skin gets oily but the difference I see is worth it.

Where are you buying spearmint tea? At the regular grocery store?

And, I assume it comes in a box of many tea bags like regular hot tea?

Thanks!

Is the spearmint tea a black tea mixed with spearmint or is it just made with spearmint leaves? I have heard about this before but can't find it!! I've found mint tea and I bought spearmint leaves once and made black tea with it in there though. Can you give me some brand names?
