Yes, if you are using the new mail you can chat. You will not be able to go into chat rooms, but you can IM people on your contacts list. First, switch over to the new yahoo mail. Once you have done that, in the upper left hand corner where it says your name, it will say your status as Available, Invisible, Offline, etc. Drop down that box to choose what you want your status to be. Your contacts list will appear in the left hand column if you are online. You can click a person's name from that list to open an IM. Or you can hit C and it will open up a chat window where you can type the screen name of the person you want to IM. Then you IM as normal from there.
