can i call myself a poet?

I've been writing poems for like two years now... but i never studied poetry, so i never kno if what i write can be called a poem or not ...

that's one of the most recent poems i wrote:

Significant noise

When all lights are off
Every breath is gone
And sounds are down
I would still hear a significant noise
Trembling strings
The song he sings
I try to follow
But I constantly break
I try to be me
But what I am is fake
I set and wait
For what life might bring;
It brings me a song
And takes me along,
Farther away from where I belong
I try to stop listening

But it's a hell'va significant noise,
Listening is no choice…


so can i call that a poem...am i a poet? =S
if not, what makes a poem a poem? :P

cause i was having doubts ...
and i do write a lot of poems ;)
 
anyone can be a poet as long as you feel that your poem is a poem. Anything can be a poem as long as you make it one. I read your poem and i think its great! you will be a great poet in the future. Study into poetry more and you will be successful!
 
you can be whatever u wanna be
theres no qualifications to become a poet so if u like to write poems then ur a poet!
