I have a 10 gallon fish tank with 3 small goldfish in it. today I noticed alge growing on some of the rocks and my decoration. would it be ok for me to buy a snail to eat the alge? I know that everyone says that a goldfish can't be in a tank that small, but my friend had 3 goldfish, one alge eating fish, and like 10 small snails in a 10 gallon tank and they lived fore like 9 years! Thanks!!

Okay, if you know that you shouldn't put goldfish in small tanks, then don't - no matter what your friend did. Are you sure your friend didn't just keep replacing the fish for those nine years?

Adult fancy goldfish require no less than 25g each with double the filtration, common varieties require over twice as much space.

If you can, avoid placing your tank in direct sunlight. Only keep the tank lights on for 6-8 hours to avoid extra algae growth. One snail won't be enough to clean the algae, in fact, algae is good for a tank.

But please, do some research first.
