Can homeschool kids participate in public school sports?

My daughter was an 10th grader in a public school and starting this fall she will be a homeschooled 11th grader. She was very active in er public school and although she chose to be homeschooled she is a little upset because she liked doing sports in her high school. is there any way that she can still do these sports?

As a note, we live in California.
