Can he go to jail for this?

I have a loved one in TX. He noticed two men attempting to steal his vehicle last night and chased them down. He broke their windshield and dented the truck etc. These men never identified themselves as "repo" men or showed any paperwork or identification. He called the police who suggested it might have been a repossession; and learned from the finance company that this was the case. Now he is afraid about the damage he did. Is this a criminal offense that could involve jail time?

Roflmao!
Sorry but that's funny. No don't worry no jail time, but he might have to pay for the damages.
Lol, that's a bit of an awkward moment. It was even kind of set up like a joke.
"So he saw these guys trying to break into a car, so he wrecked their car and Weeeeeell the never SAID they were repo men."
lols.
Sorry to your loved one that's just a really funny story.
