Can estate agent charge fees if I pull out of the sale of my house?

I have a 12 week contract with my estate agent (which ended at beginning of July) and they found me a buyer at the beginning of june. I accepted the offer (not the full asking price) but meanwhile my situation has changed and for family reason I can afford to keep my property instead of having to sell it. The contract has the following clause:
"Ready Willing and able purchaser: A purchaser is a ready, willing and able purchaser if they are prepared and able to exchange unconditional contracts for the purchase of your property . You willl be liable to pay remunaration to us in addition to any other costs or charges agreed if we introduce a ready, willing and able purchaser in accordance with your instructions. This must be paid if you subsequently withdraw and unconditional contracts for sale are not exchanged irrespective of your reasons. Your liability will be one half of the agreed agency fees". We are now at the stage of the preliminary enquiries. anyone has any experience in regard to this or knows the legality??
thanks a million
I'm in the UK
