Can deceased family members garden from beyond?

100 yr old family home was torn down last year. Since then flowers are coming up all by themselves. My mom gardened like crazy and now the lot is awash in petunias, hollyhocks, morning glorys and some others I don't know. A poppy showed up even. Just wondering if I have a ghostly helper. I didn't plant any of these flowers. Like to think my mom is still gardening.

Studies have found that dead people are excellent gardeners. Not only that, but they. are often voting democrats. Sometimes plants with bulb type seeds or deep underground root systems grow forever. Examples are garlic, onions, asparagus and other plants that seed themselves. But just go ahead and think of your mother. It is part of her.

The most probable explanation is that people nearby have gardens containing those flowers and the seeds were carried by the wind and into your garden. Check to see if there are any populations of those flowers nearby.

Poppies are perennials. So are morning glories. Actually, the latter are like weeds that are hard to eradicate.

But the Petunias are annuals. Maybe you live in a warmer climate and they reseed.

It is nice that the garden reminds you of your mother.
