It's normal to do this for the reason that you just stated. YOU might be honest, but the other employees may not be. If the store asks that you can walk around with your backpack while the others cannot, there can be issues with discrimination. Don't take this personally. You know how when you go to state buildings and airports and such, they always search you? Not personal. Just something that they have to do to protect themselves. If you have any personal belongings like a wallet or cash, take it out before you go shopping. You'll need it anyway. =)

i would never steal anything and
i felt as if i was beig treated as a ciminal
should i call the manager
i was very hurt
and the lady that asked was majorly rude and i did feel discrimination happening
