Yes. Stereo receivers are in every car. They work great!
If you're asking about hooking a car amp to a home theater receiver, then don't bother. You're much better off getting A/V receiver with a built in amplifier. It's cleaner and you don't have to mess with power inverters and other gizmos.
If you use a car amp to power home speakers, you'll have to buy a tuner (to receiver and 'tune' radio). You'll have to buy a crossover (to level different frequencies). Car speakers typically are 4-Ohms. Most low, average and some high quality speakers are 8-Ohms. It's not a good thing to mix and match different ohm components for a variety of reasons. Basically you'll blow the amp or the speakers.
Just buy an Onkyo stereo receiver. They've got some serious power and a great price.
