Hi -

i have suffering from Allergic rhinitis for around 8 yrs now, but could never find out its cause. i'll have a running nose and sneezing the entire day. it is terrible. recently i found that i have B12 deficiency. Can this be a cause for allergy ?

It could be that your sinus problems aren't due to allergy at all. You could be sensitive to irritants such as smoke, grit, pollution, dry air, or chlorine. (The symptoms can be the same as allergy, but the biochemistry is totally different.) Or it could be vasomotor rhinitis, which basically means you have a runny nose because your nose is irritated because you have a runny nose.

Like Titchou said, if you haven't had scratch testing for allergies, you should. It's a very accurate method. If that was negative, there are still things you can do.

Rinsing your sinuses with saline may help whether it's allergy or irritant related, as can steroid or antihistamine nasal sprays. Decongestant nasal sprays should not be used regularly as they cause dependency and rebound congestion.
