Can anyone tell me this film (Very vague description)

I watched a film when i was a kid.
It was like a wild west show and the teenager was brilliant with a gun, but kept forgetting to put bullets in his gun ...He had a gunfight with someone and forgot to put bullets in.
Sorry for the vague description it has been 30 years since i saw it and i was about 8 at the time.
Hope someone can help been wondering what that film is called for ages.
 
no valley of the gwangi (which i remember really well) was cowboys v dinosaurs

i think there was a crack in a rock that led to the past and a t-rex followed them back... seem to remember a big fight in a church at the end
