Can anyone tell me about the history of religion ?

I have heard that Buddhism was the world's second great religion. But, what was the first ?? And, can anyone tell me more about the evolution of religious thinking since the dawn of time ??
 
Hinduism is older then Buddhism. The first was something like animism or polytheism. Most religions were used to explain the unknown and control populations.
 
Christianity is currently the worlds largest religion, followed by Islamic beliefs, followed by buddahism.

Basically God created the world and people decided to believe otherwise.
