...published? I am working on a book that I know still has awhile in the making. However, it seems that literary agents will be more likely to take you on as a client if you have been published in anything from a magazine, to a digest, to a newspaper. Can anyone recommend a publication I can submit a short story to?

What kind of short story have you written? Literary magazines are often segmented by genre, age, or topic.

I sent in a short story with information I got from the book Writer's Market 2010, which you can find at a local library or bookstore. Inside, you'll get info like average length of submissions, genre, payment info, etc.
