:D :D :D Now why aren't I supprised by these replies...

No, I actualy meant films like Basic Instinct , Jade, In the Cut , Unfaithful etc. You know the type of thing I'm on about. Good story, good cast and a bit of flesh... :o

PS: I've already got the ones listed.

I think the phrase 'good erotic thrillers' is a bit of an oxymoron as the vast majority are dreadful. Channel 5 used to show them every Friday but appear to have cleared up their act recently.

The 10 basic ingredients for a C-grade erotic thriller:

1. It will star a Shannon; either Tweed or Whirry. Or possibly Rochelle Swanson. On the male casting front, they may have managed to snag a relative of someone reasonably famous or someone who was once tipped to be the next big thing (Chad Mcqueen, Eric Roberts, Maxwell Caulfield )

2. The same piece of horrendous music will play throughout all sex scenes.

3. The lead actress will have a long lingering shower/bath scene which will forward the plot exponentially. The lead actor will have either a dodgy haircut or bad facial hair. Or both.

4. The title will riff on other more successful films. "Indecent instinct", "Basic Exposure", "Animal Desires". Stick a Roman numeral or number in there for effect, even if it shares nothing with other films in the 'series'.

5. To explain the incessant sex scenes, the story will take place in either a brothel, a strip club or a sex therapist's office.

6. The female protagonist, despite being straight, will indulge in a bout of lesbianism at around the hour mark. She will then have sex with a man to restore balance to the erotic thriller universe.

7. The sex scenes will be spread over 15 minute intervals. However, this goes out of the window towarRAB the finale where, in a half-arsed attempt at shoehorning in a plot, it gets rather dramatic and people get shot.

8. There will be a couple of 'filler' sex scenes featuring characters who have nothing to do with the other characters.

9. At some point in the film, the protagonist will observe another couple having sex. It's an ironic statement on the nature of voyeurism. Or something.

10. The credits will roll and you will feel slightly sordid, probably bored and most definitely frustrated.

Good summary, Smerph.

In my experience, anything described as an "erotic thriller" is pretty dire (as described above.)

There are exceptions, like Basic Instinct or Fatal Attraction, though.

My favourite movies with some drama, a good, solid plot and a bit of rumpy-pumpy are:

Body Heat
Don't Look Now
Single White Female
Bound
Sea of Love
The Last Seduction

One tip, though: Whatever you do, don't buy Body of Evidence. It's abysmal.

Body Heat..................hot hot hot film in all senses
Don't Look Now.........a great film and a great erotic love scene
Single White Female....OK only for me
Bound........................I have the DVD but I have yet to watch it
Sea of Love................Ellen Barkin Wow.
The Last Seduction......Linda Fiorentina is superb in a great and sexy movie

don't buy Body of Evidence. It's abysmal...Is that the awful Madonna film?

I will add

Basic Instinct

ROFL

Couldn't agree more. The US porn industry is just appalling, and it's embarrassing to see British porn movies trying to imitate them, but they just end up looking like a particularly explicit version of those Robin Askwith "Confessions" films of the 70's.

In the quick-f**k, quick buck porn industry, they seem to have completely forgotten (or never knew in the first place) what is truly erotic and what is just cheap tat.

I'm not a prude and I'm not against explicit imagery, but there's nothing erotic about the animalistic, cold and emotionless world of mainstream porn.

Babestation is educational: I now know how many cRAB Rebecca can fit on to one of her nipples.
"How many?" I hear you ask.
Five.

Knowledge is never wasted although time frequently is. :)

It looks like I was wasting my time asking in this particular forum. I'll ask else where, maybe I'll get a decent answer to my request.

If I wanted plain old porn I'd record "Red Hot" on to my HDD/DVD recorder. I can get "Red Hot" for free on my "Nokia 221-t" freeview box

Apologies, but the fact is you're sniffing around a terrible movie genre that encompasses everything that is crass and commercial about the film industry which is why major film studios avoid labelling their movies with the term. Even the rare exceptions to the rule aren't exactly classics. "Erotic Thriller" says to me a bunch of terrible movies shot on no-budget and the likes of Fatal Attraction (reasonable), Basic Instinct (largely terrible) and Disclosure (dull).

Plus you could be a bit more precise in your stipulations. Do you want A-grade talent or badly lit sex scenes featuring people you've never heard of? Is plot important?

Out of the bunch above, I'd only recommend Bound. Wild Things isn't technically an erotic thriller but is a lot of fun.

OK, enough of the pr0n gags (;)) here's a list of Erotic Thrillers with '*' by the names of the good ones:

Fatal Attraction, Final Analysis, Basic Instinct*, Disclosure, The Getaway, In the Cut, Bound*, Swimming Pool, Breathless, Lonely Hearts, Blown Away, Mulholland Drive*, Dressed To Kill, Body Heat and Eyes Wide Shut.

I absolutely adore Stanley Kubrick's work, but EWS was a big let-down for me in terms of it being anything near "erotic".

Cruise and Kidman should have had the great onscreen chemistry you might expect from a real husband and wife, but I found their scenes together quite stilted and emotionless.

There were several contributing factors, notably Kubrick's very difficult directorial style and the constraints of a poor script, and I think the time of filming coincided with a downturn in the pair's relationship (although I'm not certain about that.)

Kidman looks absolutely gorgeous, as she always does, but there was no chemistry between her and Cruise at all.
