Find the oldest phone book for your area. Open it to the section that has investment advisors or investment counselors. Find the alphabetically place where your last name would be. Start calling those people. If the numbers are out of service, of what value was their advice?
Additionally, people in our field can become credentialed. We can sit for exams and, maybe, earn the ChFC (my favorite) designation.
Seek a person who is licensed and credentialed. If you desire, you can check to see in which political party the person is registered. This gives a slight indication as to the person's moral standards.
Were I in your shoes, I would want to entrust my money to a person who is ethical. I would never want to entrust my money to a Democrat.
