...doesn't know much? The ideal scope would be from about the year 1900.
I know a bit about what's going on, but not as much as I would like. Since I don't have the advantage of having Middle Eastern culture exported to me, I haven't absorbed much culturally. American culture is broadcast everywhere, plus if I thought I was going to get nuked by Yemen I'd probably know more about them.
I have a basic idea of what's going on, but not much. (Ahmadinejad is the President, the results of the election race between him and Mousavi are hotly contested. Khamenei is the Supreme Leader, which is the highest office under the Iranian Constitution- he's also the leader of the armed forces.)
I'm more interested in a shallower but broader history of the 20-odd countries that make up what I know as the Middle East, than an in-depth exploration of fewer places and/or a shorter period of time.
I know a bit about how the US screwed around poking its nose in when it shouldn't have, but I don't really know what was going on before and after American interference. I know this question has been asked before, but I'd like to get as many options as I can.
Great, thanks Mike P.
