This is my thesis:
Elite behavior in the Germanic “Barbarian” society was characterized by underlying virtues of honor achieved through one’s military accomplishments. Beowulf exemplifies the most vital elements that a warrior must build upon to achieve higher societal status. Unwavering bravery, unquestionable kinship and comitatus loyalty and combat capabilities are all means by which a Germanic warrior may climb the ladder of the societal elites during this time period. Although Germanic society found in Beowulf contains an element of hierarchy through lineage, warriors are commended for his deeds and accomplishments on the battlefield.
