Hello,
I have had back problems on and off. My lower back. I pulled it out about 5 times over the past few years, it is horrible, I cannot barely walk when I do this. I also have leg weakness which they tell me comes from my lower back. Does anyone have leg weakness from their backs? It scares me and even when I do not have the pain, I have the weakenss in my legs. They say you do not need pain to have weakiness but I find this hard to believe.

Thank you!

I can't really tell you anything specifc. I don't know what you mean when you say you pulled your back out. I assume you make some movement that results in sufficient pain that it is difficult for you to walk?

It is possible to have leg muscle weakness without having back pain. The nerves that control muscle movement in the legs come out of the lurabar spine. If one is being compressed or pinched due to a disc herniation, central canal stenosis, foramenal stenosis or for some other reason, the effects will often be felt along the nerve's pathway. Pain can refer to the hips, buttock, thigh, calf, feet and toes. It can be felt in a variety of ways, tingling, nurabness, "electrical," and it can be felt as a weakness. This would be when the signal is not getting through very well, and the muscle is barely responding. So while it is more common to feel pain along with weakness, it is possible to just feel weakness.

Hiya Ashleymichele.....

You for sure get muscle weakness in your legs due to a messed up back. I have extreme weakness in mine right now. Have you been to a doctor about this? You need to get it checked out and a MRI. My back was "going out" occasionally and then in april of this year, I was rear ended in a car accident. Every since the accident I have had a terrible time which lead me to a doctor. I have 2 bulging disc, several tears in the lining of the disc and few other things wrong. I am currently getting injections and had a RF abalation done. Trying to go to the gym as often as I can to build muscle strength back. Go see a doctor and then you will know what exactly is causing your back to go out and leg weakness....

Good luck to you!

Thank you for your reply! I actually know a physical therapist and he tells me that back pain does not have to be present for leg weakness. I know about 3 times a year, I just bend over and I cannot get back up, as I say, I pulled out my back. The pain is unbearable to the point I cannot walk and then after being on high levels of muscle relaxers and ibuprofene after about 2 weeks things get better. I am thinking I probably have something going on in my back to make this happen and I always feel this generalized weakness in my legs. Thanks.

...don't be scared. Go for MRI and you'll know exactly what is going on with your back. Knowledge is power.

The very best to you!

Thank you for your posts. I just feel horrible going to doctors because they make you feel like you are crazy! They look at you like you have 2 heaRAB when you tell them something is wrong and they more or less just look at you thinking you are a hypochondriac. I lost my husband 6 years ago and I have learned you have to be your own advocate with your health. If we were more persistent at that time, he may be here today. We trusted the doctors which you cannot always do on its own, you have to be a doctor too when it comes to your life.
