HI,
Firstly thanks for reading this and I just hope someone out there could maybe help me. I had twin girls 6months ago and ever since I have suffered with pain in my back and right side which seems to be just above my hip. I am finding it hard jsut moving my right leg to walk at the moment and also feel the pain when sat in my back (feels like something is going to snap) on standing its hard to just straighten up as I get severe pain in my right side (near to or above my hip). I had a c section with my first child (and had to have a spinal to carry this operation out), a yr later I had to have a luraber puncture in my spine and then when having my twins 6 months ago I had the epidural (they were delivered natuarally) so I have had a lot of needles in my spine over the last 4 years.
I have been to the doctors who has referred me for physio and asked me to have an xray, I did also have very bad pubus symphasis dysfuntion during both my pregancies, and still have problems turning over in bed as this hurts so so much.
I havent yet had any physio or had my x-ray but I am in agony at the moment and anxious over what is causing this.
I do hope someone can help out there as I dont know what I will do with myself if I am always going to have to suffer with this much pain. It is having such a big impact on my life and hindering what I can do with my children.
Please help! thanks x

Get better quick!

Devon

Thank you Devon for been so supportive. I am trying heat packs at the moment and am popping pills no end but nothing seems to be happening. I will keep on with it though - excercise seems to make me worse.
Thanks again and will kee you posted x

I have heard it said that pregnancy can be very hard on the SI (sacroiliac) joint which is in the lower back and I know that pain from this can also radiate up into the hip and affect the thigh and leg as well. Given the complexity of your situation it seems to me that evaluation by a specialist is probably needed. I would start with your family doctor or GP and see in what direction they want you to move (e.g. spine doctor, pain-management specialist, neurologist, etc). And I wish you the very bast of luck! Hi, I had severe back on right hip issues after the birth of my 2nd daughter in 2006. In 2007 when I gave birth to #3, the problem got WAY worse. My doc had me on pain meRAB and gave me a cortisone shot in the SI joint. The shot helped, but very little.

I have had 2 MRIs done and they show minor bulging in the L5-S1 and some other problems. If your pain doesn't go away please get in to the doc and ask what else can be done.

After #3, I could not bend and it was VERY hard to pick any of the girls up. I sympathize with what you are feeling, but it can be fixed, it just takes time.

Thanks so much for your replies - its gives me faith in that it can hopefully be fixed. How long did it take for you to start feeling better after the injection? At the moment I am awaiting my physio and appoitment for xray. Will keep you posted xx

SounRAB SO familiar. Although I had back problems before my pregnancies. I had a laminectomy/discectomy at L5/S1 6 months before my first pregnancy. I did fine during my first pregnancy, but I found that my hips started to hurt abouth 6 months after delivery. I had another baby 3 years later. I was in physical therapy from a few weeks after my surgery until about three months ago. During this time, my hip pain increased, my back pain, SI joint, IT band (left thigh), and right side sciatic. PT, massage, injections...none of it worked. In March 2008 I had a spinal cord stimulator implanted, which made things worse. FINALLY, the end of 2008 I had a spinal fusion (L5/S1) and I feel better than I have in years. My surgeon said that when he opened me up, my vertabrae were right on top of each other and he couldn't even get his scalpel in between them. Anyway, the reason that I tell you all of this is that it is a long process to determine where your pain is coming from and to try all conservative treatments before getting to the point of surgery. Hopefully, you will find relief in conservative treatments. I believe that my back problems were exacerbated by my pregnancies and mine were only singletons. But, we never really know for sure. Best of luck to you! Raising small children in chronic pain is extremely challenging, but definitely manageable.
